Beyoncé and Jay-Z actually did win two MTV VMA awards last night.

Unlike fellow nominees-who-skipped Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber and
Selena Gomez . They were also up for Video of the Year, the biggest
nomination an artist can get.

But the power couple chose not to attend the New York ceremony,
despite being awarded Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction
for "APES**T." Their reasoning may have less to do with snubbing
MTV as much as it has to do with scheduling. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are
in the middle of the U.S. leg of their On the Run II tour. They play in
Columbia, South Carolina tonight after playing in Buffalo, New York on
Saturday.

If they had been in the city for the award ceremony, they would have
had to fly a little less than two and a half hours to make it to South
Carolina. It's a tight squeeze—and one that makes attending an
award show that goes late into the night on Monday a hard ask, even
if the Carters were winning Video of the Year...and especially if not.

Vybz Kartel

Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney Tom Tavares-Finson is questioning the credibility of a juror who claims she is in the witness protection program.

A female juror contacted the Gleaner over the weekend claiming that she was forced to go into witness protection because she is in fear for her life. Tom Tavares-Finson has shared his reaction by raising the same question that most of us have. The Queen’s Counsel and attorney and attorney-at-law asked how did the newspaper get into contact with someone who is suppose to disappear from the face of the earth.
Tavares-Finson expressed how frightening it is to know that the media could so easily get into contact with the female juror who claimed that she is now living overseas under a new secret identity.
The seasoned lawyer is also questioning the timing of the statements made by the juror which is around the time when the appeal court judges are deliberating Vybz Kartel‘s appeal. He expressed that the juror’s interview with the Gleaner is calculated and was done to prejudice Kartel’s appeal.

Tavares-Finson made it clear that the juror’s recent statements will not affect the ruling handed down by the appeal court since those judges are of the highest integrity and know how to ignore matters like these when handing down their verdict.
In the damning article, the female juror, who was among the 11-member jury that found Vybz Kartel guilty of murder, says her life has been hard since the 2014 murder trial. She says that at one point she contemplated suicide as a means to escape the nightmare she is living in. She revealed that she is unable to spend Christmas and other holidays with her family and can only meet with them once a year at a secret location.
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, and his three co-accused, Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones are currently serving life for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Two of the biggest musical brands in Kenya – Sauti Sol and Nyashinski – have come together to address the issues plaguing our country in an unprecedented hard-hitting political song.

On this one, Sauti Sol and Nyashinski who collaborated on the hit song Short and Sweet, have brought the same touch they use when it comes to making us dance and sing along and the result is a product that will elicit debates and may split their fans down the middle.
The song borrows heavily from one of Sauti Sol’s hits “Kuliko Jana” but the delivery is harder and the writing crisp.
“For our latest release we thought about the world right now and the number of persistent issues plaguing it,” writes Sauti Sol on the lyric video uploaded on YouTube on Wednesday morning.
“These things are hardly ever solved and we are consistently shortchanged. So we considered; how can we address these frustrations?”

Bien-Aime Baraza, one of the band members, launches the song and sets the tone in the first second; “Barua toka Jaramogi na Kenyatta, wanauliza kama Kenya kuko sawa, nikawajibu Kenya tuko na disaster, watoto wetu wanazidi kuzikana…” (Letter from Jaramogi and Kenyatta asking if all is well in Kenya. I told them Kenya is a disaster, our kids are burying each other.)
From there, the four artistes go on to list the main issues affecting the country: t ribalism, crippling national debt, corruption, greed and lawlessness among other issues.
“We vote tribe ama real cash ask Boni,” raps Nyashinski. “I’m richer than my neighbour but we both in the slum.”

The Malaika star also questions the concept of elections wondering; “If the rich always win, why should the popular run? Unless democracy ni word si usema only for fun.”
Speaking of the song, which is the sixth single off their forthcoming Afrikan Sauce album, Sauti Sol say they realised that every Kenyan has a role to play in redeeming the country since we have all benefited from the flawed systems.
“None of us are perfect. None of us are exonerated. We have all contributed to and benefited from the flawed systems. But, change is a result of possibility. If we all decide to personally act towards building a world we are proud to live in, then it will become a reality,” says the group who produced the song.

Otile Brown and Vera Sidika

Singer Otile Brown and Vera Sidika are not lovers any more. Sidika first made the announcement on her platform that Oitle used and dumped her leaving many shocked.

Kenyans, or should we say women, took to Otile’s platform to rebuke him for his action forcing the singer to come out and speak on why he had to part ways with the flamboyant socialite. According to Otile, Vera is just playing victim in this whole saga. He didn’t share why he dumped her though.
There is something she did that really turned me off and ever since the relationship has been on a sinking grounds, fights all the time and I could feel the distance between us even when we’re together, the love was fading away,” said Otile.

He added:
“I believe she wrote all that not coz she’s hurting but coz she was afraid of what social media will say after realizing that we ain’t no longer together and maybe have moved on with another queen coz SHE cares so much about what Social media think and say but me Hehehe I don’t care, you can just tell coz I don’t turn off the comments section no matter how bad people insult me. I loved Vee sana and cared so much about her those who knows knows, but she’s trying to make me look heartless and a user so other queens would see me different and be cautious anytime am trying to make a move towards any,”  added Otile.

Kenyan celebrities are calling for the release of Kyadondo East MP
Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.
According to reports, Mr Kyagulanyi, who was arrested last Monday
over claims of inciting residents to pelt President Yoweri Museveni’s
entourage with stones was tortured by the army.
While appearing in a military court on Thursday, reports indicate that
a semi-conscious Mr Kyagulanyi seemed unresponsive.

Calls for release

Under the hashtag #FreeBobiWine, Kenyan celebrities have come out
calling for Mr Kyagulanyi’s release as others criticized Museveni’s
government.
"When our leaders have become misleaders and mentors have become
tormentors. When freedom of expression becomes the target of
oppression, opposition becomes our position,” Victoria Kimani wrote.
"Free Bobi Wine,Its not a request, Freedom for ugandans," DJ LYTMAS wrote.
Rapper and producer Naiboi wrote, “I pray for you and your family!”
as Sautisol stated “where is my freedom of expression? When you
charge me because of my expression?”
Willy Tuva May wrote “God protect you and give you strength to
overcome this” while Dj Krowbar stated that “@bobiwine He is
currently in Uganda Military Prison having being accused of treason.
This is because of a power hungry president who is not ready to
relinquish power to the next generation having being the president of
Uganda for over 30yrs.
Say a prayer for him and his family. Imagine what the wife and kids
are going through.”

UK travel advisory

On 19 August, the UK issued a travel advisory warning its citizens
against visiting Uganda amidst heightened political tension.
“There is an increased likelihood of protests, which may turn violent,
across Uganda,” part of the statement read.
The travel advisory comes two days after 20 people were arrested by
Ugandan police during protests calling for Mr Kyagulanyi’s release.

Vybz Kartel and Lisa Hyper
Vybz Kartel and Lisa Hyper

Lisa Hyper is opening up about her relationship with Vybz Kartel
saying it’s deeper than dancehall.
Lisa Hyper, former known as Lisa Hype, was one of the original
members of the Vybz Kartel led Portmore Empire. She has
collaborated with her former mentor on many occasions in the past
including on a song titled “Whine For Me” which fueled rumors that
the two are in a relationship. A leaked photo showing the female
dancehall artist giving another man, rumored to be Kartel, all her
brains didn’t help to quell the rumors.
For the first time, Hyper is opening up about her relationship with the
now incarcerated dancehall deejay. “The connection Adidja and I
have is way deeper than music, deeper than the deep blue sea,” she
said.
Lisa Hyper also confirmed for the first time that she and Vybz Kartel
were involved in an intimate relationship that blossomed out of a
lifelong friendship that they shared with each other. “I know this
man from the age of five, we grew up in the same community,” Hyper
explains. “We could talk about anything, and as our friendship grew,
we became very much involved in an intimate relationship.”
Despite her close relationship with Vybz Kartel, Lisa Hyper was one of
those original members of the Gaza who were kicked out of Portmore
Empire or forced to leave the group after their relationship with
Kartel went sour. She made it clear that she wasn’t like the other
members who linked with Kartel to gain fame, she knew him before he
was a household name.

Konshens
Konshens-Jamaican Artist

While Konshens may post images of family on social media, the
'Original Daddy' singjay says separating the image as a dancehall
artiste from the man he is at home really makes a significant
difference.

Konshens, whose given name is Garfield Spence, is the father of
two children and wedded his girlfriend of six years, Latoya
Wright, just last year.
"In all honesty, I have been married for the six years now, being a
one-burner man, but now I am married on paper," he said.
The dancehall artiste says that there are females that are still
very much interested in Konshens, and they make it known. He
said he is smart and knows how to put an end to any moves if
faced by any 'crazy fan girls'.
He not only speaks highly of himself as an artiste but as a father.
In the single Original Daddy , Konshens sings, 'big up myself
because mi a real father, never left mi son and nuh neglect mi
daughter' . The video is probably the only one in which the public
will see his children.

Konshens said that he is even cautious in asking his daughter to
record simple videos for him on the phone.
When asked how he divided his time between his career and his
role as a family man, the dancehall artiste told THE STAR,
"Konshens is never in the house."
"I think that is one of the most important things you can do as an
artiste who is a parent," he said.
The STAR of the Month admits that he does not necessarily keep his
personal life private as he still engages in posting photographs of
his wife. He, said, however, that he will shy away from posting
images of his 11-year-old daughter.
He limits the posts in order to avoid lusting males who may make
inappropriate comments.

Like many fathers, Konshens' protective nature kicks in to keep
them sheltered, so to speak, from the sins of the world.
Another reason he tries to keep his family out of the spotlight, he
says, "[It is because] you have crazy people out there, so you have
to watch what you post in terms of your family members."

Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill
Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj

Are Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill working things out?

Nicki Minaj has been doing her press run all week for her new album
Queen , and she isn’t only airing out her ex-boyfriend, she is also
hinting that she might be getting back together with another. During
her sit down with Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 radio yesterday, she
was asked about the possibility of getting back together with Meek
Mill . At that moment she was the complete opposite of when she was
asked about Safaree Samuels.
Nicki tried her best to avoid the question, but even as she tried to
change the subject, it was evident that the two stand a chance at
working things out. “He’s really tried to be the bigger person, and
he’s come out and said ‘I know I didn’t really do right’ and ‘you
stood by me’ and ‘you were good to me’,” she said.

Whatever Meek Mill did to her, Nicki Minaj said she was able to
forgive him and moved on from that just because he tried to be the
bigger person and come to her real. She also revealed that her ex-
boyfriend Nas told her that Meek Mill was still in love with her.

Let us find out #Omeeka is trying to work things out ?. #nickiminaj
#Meekmill #gossiptwins

Vybz Kartel and Mavado

Did Mavado go to war with Vybz Kartel for his fame?

Bounty Killer continues to drop some dancehall history lesson on us,
or at least from his point of view. For the vast majority of us
dancehall fans, the infamous Gully/Gaza feud started because Vybz
Kartel left the Alliance and started dissing The General, aka Bounty
Killer. Mavado then jumps to the defense of his mentor and diss
back Kartel, and that gave birth to one of the most fierce rivalries in
dancehall’s history.

Bounty Killer saw it much differently saying that Mavado wasn’t
defending him from an onslaught from Vybz Kartel and his Gaza
crew, but instead, instigate a feud with the now incarcerated deejay
because he wanted his fame. Killer may have a point since Kartel was
making a name for himself in dancehall in the mid-2000s with a slew
of hits.
Back then the Worl’Boss became famous for his lewd and explicit
lyrics which sparked some backlash from radio stations who were
hesitant to play his music. Nevertheless, dancehall fans, particularly
females gravitate towards his lewd music, and the males respected
him for his lyricism and flow.

On the other hand, Mavado was also making a name for himself
though he and Busy Signal were not as big as Vybz Kartel at the
time. During his rant on Instagram last weekend, Bounty Killer said
that the Gullyside singer started to war with Vybz Kartel purely out
of envy for his fame.
“How him fi defend my war when he took sh*t on his own head,”
Bounty said. “Ask him if I ever told him to go take on Kartel he wants
Kartel fame so he wants to defeat Kartel I never stop him but it was
his idea not mine but each times I post Kartel you had a Vado
jealousy.”

The Gully/Gaza war dominated dancehall in the mid-2000s until the
government of Jamaica steps in 2009 to call for peace after the feud
triggered violence among fans in the streets and schools. Mavado
and Vybz Kartel shook hands and called for peace at the time, but
that didn’t immediately end the bad blood between the two sides.
Mavado and Vybz Kartel were friends before the Gully/Gaza feud
and even collaborated on the single “Happiest Days” which became a
huge hit.

DOWNLOAD THIS MIX

This is dedicated to my love of  roots reggae as
championed by Sir Coxsone Dodd, founder of the Motown of Jamaica,
Studio One who had literally every great artist pass through from
Bob Marley to John Holt, Horace Andy to Lee Scratch Perry. Their
artists in turn went on to inspire the next generation so if it wasn't
for this label perhaps hip hop, soul, jungle, electronic music, trip hop,
dubstep, etc wouldn't even exist or at least wouldn't be anywhere
near as good. All hail King Dodd!
Now this is not a definitive mix, there are literally hundreds of
songs I could have used. This is just me dipping my toes in their
water and tipping my hat to legends.

'Kanini Fingers Duale' Tittle on NTV

A dirty minded society, many have argued, but the ‘Kanini
Fingers Duale’ title aired on NTV Tuesday night may have been
a phrase commonly used, but with various meanings.

Tweeps on Tuesday night through Wednesday morning were awed by the
use of the language, many in fact arguing that the Media Council of
Kenya should step in to bring sanity.
A popular online dictionary defines the phrase ‘finger someone’ as “the
act of identifying someone as a certain person (As if pointing a finger
at someone).”

The context of the usage, however, differs, and for the case of Kanini
fingering Duale’ was purely a move by Mr Kanini to accuse Mr Duale of
having waged the war against the sugar report, leading to its ouster.
Some tweeps have, in fact, accused NTV editors of probably watching a
lot of pornography content, and as such, the results would be posting
such TV scrolls.

“Forget about super petrol, it now seems that NTV editors have been
watching too much porn. 'Kanini Fingers Duale',” a Kimani Mwangi said
via Twitter.
Insensitive
“#GitheriMedia indeed. Any editor sensitive on what goes on in society
would not use such a tagline "Kanini fingers Duale" NTV Kenya,”
Mwalimu Mutie tweeted.

Mbas Liech argued: “Yaani 2018 and educated Kenyans have no idea
what 'to finger' means in the context of Kanini to Duale?”
And even worse offline, writers had heated debate
Wednesday morning, with editors such as Tony, arguing that the rotten society is to
blame for the misinterpretation of the context of usage.

“That’s how dirty minded Kenyans are. People who always belief that
any act related to fingering is sex-oriented are misguided. Mature
people would know that easily, not the current, spoiled brats,” Tony

Meek Mill shared his reaction to today’s Nicki Minaj and Safaree
Samuels blowout on Twitter.
Meek Mill is somewhere in Philly right now enjoying the Twitter
escapade put on today by Nicki Minaj and her ex-boyfriend Safaree
Samuels . The whole thing looks bad on both of them to be airing out
each other in front of a worldwide audience. Nevertheless, it was
quite entertaining, and Meek seems to get the memo a couple of hours
late, but he has Alexa to help him catch up on what went down.
“‘Alexa’ catch me up to today’s action on the net,” Meek wrote in a
post on his Instagram Story. Even if Alexa is not capable of zooming
him in on just the happenings between his old flame and her ex, the
evidence is littered all over social media. Most of the posts are on
their Twitter feed right now, and those that were deleted are on
every celebrity blogs.
Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj dated for two years before breaking up,
but today Nicki revealed in an interview with Funkmaster Flex that
she and the Philly rapper were fooling around for years. That means
she was cheating on Safaree with Meek Mill for a good minute before
their decade-long relationship came to a screeching halt.
The Dreamchasers rapper might also want to stay out of this one and
be a spectator just like the rest of us because Nicki Minaj seems like
she is on another level right now and he might just get aired out as
well. She even mentioned Meek during her rant to Funk Flex about
writing her own raps saying that he can back up her statement since
the two of them were living in the same house and sleeping in the
same bed. Whether or not Meek will back up her statement is another
story.

Nicki Minaj and Vybz Kartel
Nicki Minaj and Vybz Kartel

Nicki Minaj is still a huge fan of Vybz Kartel.

Nicki Minaj new album Queen is now out and not only did she tapped
into her Caribbean roots, but she also pays homage to a bunch of
reggae/dancehall legends and call for Vybz Kartel to be freed. Nicki
has a dope new song with Foxy Brown on the album named “Coco
Chanel.” The track is one of the hottest and most talked about
singles on the album and for good reasons.

In her verse, Nicki Minaj gave Vybz Kartel a big shout-out. “Illest tp
ever do it, tell’ em fi recognize, Run a Kartel, Dem fi free up Vybz,”
Nicki raps. In the “Outro for the album, she pays homage to a number
of Caribbean legends like Bob Marley, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man,
Mavado, Super Cat, Machel Montano, and more.

Nicki Minaj sampled the “Party Showtime Riddim” on her song “Coco
Chanel,” and she also managed to get Foxy Brown to come out of
retirement. The classic dancehall project “Party Showtime Riddim”
was produced by Madhouse Records and released in 1997. The
project features some big names in dancehall like Bounty Killer,
Beenie Man, Spragga Benz, Mad Cobra, Wayne Wonder, Shaggy, Baby
Cham, and more.

Nicki Minaj and Vybz Kartel have yet to collaborate on a song, and
there were some rumors last year claiming that the incarcerated
deejay would be featured on her new album. Perhaps his legal woes
have prevented him from landing that feature, but there is now a
good chance that he might get out of prison following a blistering
appeal trial in July. So don’t write off a Nicki and Vybz collab just
yet.

The Young Money rapper, who has strong Caribbean ties by way of
birth, has collaborated with Vybz Kartel’s number one foe, Mavado,
but she is clearly not picking sides.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday declared that he did
not support the ongoing demolitions of structures built on riparian land
in Nairobi.

Waititu suggested that the government should place the burden of
diverting the river on the investor instead of demolishing the entire
property.
Mambo ingine mimi naona pale, kama iyo watu wanasupport ubomoaji,
mimi hapana support. Mambo iangaliwe, kama nyumba yako imekaribiana
na mto, wewe uambiwe ni gharama yako kuhakikisha hiyo mto imesonga
kidogo
Which loosely translates to: (Something I am seeing with people
supporting demolitions that I don't support. This should be looked into
and if your house is next to the river you should be told to cater for the
cost of diverting the river to ensure it moves a bit),” Waititu stated.

Nicki Minaj,Safaree Samuels
Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels

Safaree Samuels and Nicki Minaj are locked in another bitter Twitter
feud.

Safaree Samuels and Nicki Minaj relationship may be over, but
perhaps they still care so much about each other, or it’s the complete
opposite. Nicki did an interview with Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 radio
in New York this morning where she offloads on the Love and Hip Hop
star who she dated for 12 years. The interview got heated when she
was asked about the allegations that Safaree writes raps for her.

Not only did Nicki denied the claim once again, but she also offloads
some damning details about their relationship like allegations that
Safaree stole her credit cards and used it to pay for prostitutes.
She also claimed that he was the one begging for her to take him back
and that his mother and sister called her a lazy b*tch before she
became a famous rapper.

Safaree Samuels wasn’t going to sit by and let his ex-girlfriend
drag him through the mud in front of the entire world. He responded
on Twitter saying that he never stole her credit card and made a
big revelation that she almost killed his azz.

“Remember the night you cut me and I almost died the police and
ambulance had to take me out the crib on a stretcher and I had to
lie and tell them I was trying to kill myself so they wouldn’t take you
to jail. When things like that start happening more Than once it’s
time to dip,” he tweeted.

“We know each other inside out,” he continues. “Everything there was
for us. I didn’t use your card for prostitutes. We both didn’t trust
each other. You did sh*t I did sh*t. You said you were messing with
meek a few years b4 Y’all got together and I’m not mad at that.”

Popcaan - Jamaican Musical Artist

Born in 1991, July 15 in St. Thomas, Jamaica. At a very young age,
Andre”Popcaan” Sutherland moved to the mean streets of Portmore,
St. Catherine with his mother so they can start a new life. Popcaan
spent most of his time in school trying to keep focused and trying his
best to stay on the right track. Popcaan claims he had a very
troubled childhood and was surrounded by violence calling where he
grew up was the “Gangsta City”.
At an early age of 7,Popcaan used to preform during school talent
shows and after school concerts. Knowing his talent Popcaan thought
it was just a pipe dream for him to make it big like such artists such
as Buju Banton and Sizzla. As a child Popcaan had dreams of
becoming a soldier for the Jamaican army and serve his country
proud. He want as far as taking the test to become a foot soldier. He
soon came to realize that it wasn’t for him due to the lack of effort
done by the team. He quit because he was the test was just to run
and hope over stuff on the ground and was looking for more of a
challenge.
In high school Popcaan started to develop a love for his music and
wanted to make a name for himself. Popcaan like many Jamaican
youths grow up around gangs and violence. Many of his friends
where involved in drugs and many where murdered. Popcaan did
his best to move away from the negative aspects of life and focus
more on the positive even stating that he was very bad in school.
Though in high school Popcaan had to leave for reasons he doesn’t
want to talk about.
Luck finally came through for Popcaan when he was at a local talent
party where he was first recognized by Dancehall superstar Vybz
Kartel. Vybz Kartel liked his unique talent and took him under his
wing and bringing him in the group “Portmore Empire” in 2007. Vybz
Kartel not only became a mentor to Popcaan but more as a father
figure that he was needing. Vybz showed him the ropes of the music
industry and how to deal with life situations.

Popcaan started to move up in the rankings and out shining other
members in the Gaza Camp. As Blak Ryno left Portmore Empire,
Popcaan eased his way in to becoming Vybz Kartel right hand man.

Popcaan has had many hit singles such as Clarks, Gangsta City and
Dream. He also released a mix tape that was released on June 2010
called “Hot Skull, Fry Yiy, Boil Brainz”. This was a free mix tape to
all of his fans. Popcaan still resides in the fast growing Portmore
Empire camp where he is Vybz Kartel predecessor. Popcaan has the
new generation in the palm of his hands and attracts the younger
fans.

Diamond Platnumz and Zari Hassan Photos
Zari And Diamond

Diamond Platnumz’ ex-wife Zari Hassan has come out curse him for
playing him like a fool. The socialite, who has two kids from Diamond,
shared that Diamond should have at least hinted that he was
having someone else instead of pretending he wasn’t touching
another woman.
“I had rumours about this thing but I just ignored it untill the baby
was born and he was still denying. He was going on radio stations
saying the father of this child should come out and he knew this was
his child. I was like this girl is bringing out receipts, not only that
but in my bed, our home, how are you gonna explain this?” said the
socialite in an interview with  South Africa’s Phat Joe.
Betrayal
She went on to confess that she wanted the relationship to work
despite the distance between them. She lamented that Diamond
should have mentioned it to her when he cheated instead of acting
all clueless.
“He should have told me, you are South Africa, I’m in Tanzania, shit
happens and I just happen to get my horniness off somewhere. He
should have told me,”she said.
“After the betrayal, the connection was cut. The worst part was when
I decide not to be with him anymore and I’d see all these stories
about him trying to revenge. I understood where he was coming
from.”
