Vybz Kartel and Mavado

Did Mavado go to war with Vybz Kartel for his fame?

Bounty Killer continues to drop some dancehall history lesson on us,
or at least from his point of view. For the vast majority of us
dancehall fans, the infamous Gully/Gaza feud started because Vybz
Kartel left the Alliance and started dissing The General, aka Bounty
Killer. Mavado then jumps to the defense of his mentor and diss
back Kartel, and that gave birth to one of the most fierce rivalries in
dancehall’s history.

Bounty Killer saw it much differently saying that Mavado wasn’t
defending him from an onslaught from Vybz Kartel and his Gaza
crew, but instead, instigate a feud with the now incarcerated deejay
because he wanted his fame. Killer may have a point since Kartel was
making a name for himself in dancehall in the mid-2000s with a slew
of hits.
Back then the Worl’Boss became famous for his lewd and explicit
lyrics which sparked some backlash from radio stations who were
hesitant to play his music. Nevertheless, dancehall fans, particularly
females gravitate towards his lewd music, and the males respected
him for his lyricism and flow.

On the other hand, Mavado was also making a name for himself
though he and Busy Signal were not as big as Vybz Kartel at the
time. During his rant on Instagram last weekend, Bounty Killer said
that the Gullyside singer started to war with Vybz Kartel purely out
of envy for his fame.
“How him fi defend my war when he took sh*t on his own head,”
Bounty said. “Ask him if I ever told him to go take on Kartel he wants
Kartel fame so he wants to defeat Kartel I never stop him but it was
his idea not mine but each times I post Kartel you had a Vado
jealousy.”

The Gully/Gaza war dominated dancehall in the mid-2000s until the
government of Jamaica steps in 2009 to call for peace after the feud
triggered violence among fans in the streets and schools. Mavado
and Vybz Kartel shook hands and called for peace at the time, but
that didn’t immediately end the bad blood between the two sides.
Mavado and Vybz Kartel were friends before the Gully/Gaza feud
and even collaborated on the single “Happiest Days” which became a
huge hit.

Dancehall legend Bounty Killer went after one of his famous protege,
Mavado , while praising another, Vybz Kartel , in a lengthy rant on
Instagram. Killer was responding to a Gullyside fan comment went
things went south. The fan questioned why he doesn’t shout-out
Mavado on his social media profile while he regularly does it for
other former Alliance members like Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal, and
Bling Dawg. Grunggaadzilla didn’t appreciate the comment and went
HAM.

Mavado has since responded on his IG calling his former mentor
“bad mind.” “Bad mind ago kill some a dem just gwaan watch dem

David,” Vado wrote. For those who don’t know, David Brooks is
Mavado’s government name.

Mavado and Bounty Killer had a bitter falling out in 2011 when one
of the “So Special” deejay’s close friends, Conroy “Connie”
Edwards, was shot and killed at Quad nightclub in Kingston where
Killer had his birthday party. Vado says the shooter intended to kill
him and his friend saved his life.
In 2016, the two dancehall icons were spotted at a party in Kingston
and took a photo together signaling that they’ve put an end to their
beef . Clearly, that was not the case, and there is still a lot of bad
blood between them.

Mavado sends an emotional message to his son who is now in jail awaiting trial.
The Gullyside singer took to Instagram earlier this week to share an old photo of himself and his son when he was much young. “Love you son,” he wrote in the caption. Mavado has been getting a lot of criticisms on social media from dancehall fans for leaving Jamaica leaving his son behind to face a murder charge. The 16-year-old was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, and illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.

Mavado teenage son is currently locked up in a juvenile detention center and was denied bail when his attorney appeared in court last week. Vado is still overseas, and there is no clear indication yet if and when he will return to the island. Some fans are still of the view that the singer should return to support his son who is in some severe legal troubles. If convicted, he could be sent to prison for life.
Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, fled Jamaica last month just days after he was shot at in Cassava Piece over a domestic dispute involving his son and another man. A few days after the shooting incident, one man, Lorenza Thomas, was killed in a gruesome attack at his home in the community. Police say his killing was a reprisal for the shooting incident involving Mavado.
The singer’s son and another man, 23-year-old Andre Hinds, are both facing murder charges for Thomas’s death. Cops say they have text messages showing the teenager ordering the hit on Thomas where he told Hinds to behead the 22-year-old. Lawyers representing the accused told us that he vehemently denied the allegations and Mavado vows to fight for his son’s life to the very end.
DJ LYTMAS Media Team will keep you posted on any developments in the case.

Mavado is under fire from dancehall fans who are accusing him of
fleeing Jamaica leaving his teenage son to face murder charges.
Mavado has been getting a beating on social media over the past few
weeks, and it only grew intense when police formally charged his 16-
year-old son with murder. Sources close to the Gullyside singer told
Dapstream News that is not the case and he is even making plans to
mount a high powered defense for his son.
“[Mavado] why did you run leave your kid that’s so wrong bro as a
fan am disappointed,” one fan wrote on IG while another added, “You
should go back to Jamaica and support your son. Why didn’t you take
him out the ghetto when you don’t even live in the ghetto.”
Clearly, there are a lot of dancehall fans who are upset with Mavado,
but his people are insisting that he didn’t run leaving his son
behind. “Most of who you see on the internet talking about things
they don’t know about,” sources told us. “Mavado take good care of
all his kids and even take care of other people kids. There are a lot
of kids in Cassava Piece that the general send to school. So not
because his son go in the ghetto sometimes means that’s where he
lives. That’s where he is from, some people just love to talk.”
Mavado’s son and one co-accused are facing murder, conspiracy,
and weapons charges . The teen will be tried as an adult and is
facing life in prison if convicted.
Last week, Dapstream News reported that the “Belt Buckle” singjay is
considering hiring Vybz Kartel’s high powered defense team to
handle his son’s case. The 16-year-old will be back in court this week
where he will know if he will be granted bail.

Mavado is pulling all the stops to fight his son’s murder case. Mavado has expressed his son’s innocence in the charges laid against him and vows to fight for his freedom with everything he got. Sources inside the Gullyside camp exclusively told Urban Islandz that the singer is looking to build a high powered defense team for his son. One of the criminal defense attorneys he is looking at is Vybz Kartel lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson, who is widely regarded as one of the best in Jamaica.
Mavado has been getting a lot of criticisms inside dancehall from mostly his fans for leaving the island leaving his son behind to face the criminal justice system by himself. We’re told that is not the case and Mavado is shelling out a lot of money to mount a solid defense for his son. Kartel’s legal team is currently busy with his appeal case, so Vado will likely wait until that case is concluded in July to take them on full time.
We’re also told that Vado thinks that police is trying to frame his son by pinning the murder charge on him to force him back to Jamaica because they also want to pin charges on him. Mavado has been staying away from Jamaica because he believes that his life will be in danger if he returns to the island. He also thinks that the police force is trying to set him up for the same murder charge his son is facing. Sources told us that the singjay also regularly speak to his son through his attorney. Mavado’s 16-year-old son was arrested and charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, and illegal possession of a gun and ammunition. The teenager has maintained his innocence and is currently held without bond in a juvenile center.
As for Mavado, there is no word yet on if or when he will return to Jamaica to meet with police officers. However, law enforcement officials say they are prepared to have him extradited if necessary. Share this:

Vybz Kartel’s Gaza fans are trolling Mavado on social media for
allegedly running to the police.
Last weekend, the Gully Gad was shot at in Cassava Piece following a
fight with another man believed to be a don in the community. The
incident could’ve ended badly for the entertainer but thankfully he
escaped the hail of bullets with getting hurt. Mavado ran from the
shooting scene to the Constant Spring Police Station where he filed a
report. Police officers are actively investigating the incident and so far
they’ve made one arrest. The dancehall singjay says some of what’s
being reported in the media is not true.

Now Vybz Kartel‘s Gazanation fans are trolling the Gullyside singjay on
social media. This is straight out of the infamous Gully/Gaza feud
playbook from the mid-2000s and all of the fans making fun of him are
on the Gaza side of the divide. Vybz Kartel famously releases a diss
track for Mavado name “Don’t Run.”

“Di bwoy run like a wounded dog / Bruk Usain record / Don’t run
barber bwoy don’t run / Di bwoy dress up like police / And a run like
thief,” Kartel deejays. Now the incarcerated deejay’s fans are trolling
Mavado using the same line.

“Informer bwoy run go police station, barber bwoy don’t run, long time we
know say yo a coward Gully idiot yo,” one fan wrote on Mavado’s
Instagram. One fan even suggested that Mavado ran leave his son
behind when he flew from Jamaica to Florida earlier this week.

Mavado’s teenage son was arrested at the singer’s mansion yesterday.
Mavado is currently wanted for questioning by the Constant Spring policeover an increase in violence in Cassava Piece. Law enforcement sources told Dapstrem TV that they want to question the singer in relation to a killing of a young man in Cassava Piece earlier this week. We’re told that the man was shot dead and chopped before his body was light on fire by his killers

On Tuesday, a swarm of police officers converged on Mavado’s mansion in Norbrook and take his 16-year-son, Dantay Brooks, and other members of his family, including his cousin Chase Cross, into custody. The dead man has been identified as Lorenza Thomas, 23, popularly known in the community as Israel. His killing is believed to be a reprisal following the shooting incident involving Mavado on Saturday.
Thomas is only the second person to be killed over the past few days. Within hours after the Mavado shooting incident, a man name Ian Robinson, also known as Gaza Man, was shot and killed outside the Constant Spring marketin Kingston. Gaza Man is believed to be an associate of Mavado who was involved in a physical confrontation with a man in Cassava Piece who later shot at him.
Mavado’s brother and cousin are also in police custody but are yet to be charged with a crime. On Tuesday, the Jamaica Constabulary Force issued a bulletin for the dancehall entertainer to turn himself into police by midday today. Police sources told us that he left the island yesterday and his whereabouts are not known.
Mavado has been living in Florida most of the time these days and is currently a U.S. resident. There is no word yet if he will be flying back to Jamaica to meet with cops, however, his attorney is aware of the situation.
Cops have not indicated if Mavado will be charged for any crimes, but they say they want to talk to him because they believe that he can help them in their investigation of the killing of Lorenza Thomas. We’re told that a warrant is now out for his arrest after missing the deadline. Mavado will be performing in West Palm Beach for a show with Trina this weekend

Mavado is now a wanted man.

The Constant Spring Police issued a notice on Tuesday for Mavado ,
whose real name is David Brooks of a Norbrook, St. Andrew address,
to report to the police station by midday on Wednesday. The Jamaica
Constabulary Force posted the notice on Twitter and it’s unclear of
the dancehall singer is even still on the island, per our sources. The
Gully Gad was shot at in Cassava Piece last weekend after getting
in a fight with a don in the community. He went there to settle a
dispute between his son and another man.
Interestingly, after escaping the rain of bullets, Mavado ran to said
Constant Spring Police Station where he filed a report that has since
lead to the arrest of one suspect. The JCF didn’t reveal in their
tweet why they want the artist or if any charges will be laid against
him, but law enforcement sources are telling us to look out for some
major developments.
Sources close to Mavado told Dapstrem Tv that this is just a ply
by the police department to grab headlines because he is a famous
entertainer. “Singer [Mavado] already talked to the police so what
more they want, they know his lawyer, so why putting out a wanted
notice when the man is a big artist, where is he going to hide,”
sources told us.

Within hours of the Mavado shooting incident last Saturday, another
man name Ian Robinson, believed to be an associate of Mavado, was
shot and killed outside the Constant Spring Market. Police says they
are investigating the two incident separately but are looking to see if
they are linked.
Mavado has since shared his reaction to news of the shooting
incident saying that some of what’s being reported in the media is
not true. He didn’t clarify any misinformation and has since deleted
the post on social media.
